Wynyard, Devonport & North West TAS
Job Description
Indie School Wynyard is seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our team from the beginning of the 2026 school year. Located on the North-West Coast of Tasmania, our school supports students who have found it challenging to engage with mainstream education for a range of reasons. Our mission is to re-engage students with learning, strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills, and support their next steps—whether that’s returning to mainstream education, pursuing a TAFE/RTO pathway, or preparing for the workforce.
Whether you're an experienced educator seeking a refreshing and rewarding change, or new to the profession and looking for a meaningful start to your teaching career, this opportunity could be exactly what you're looking for. At Indie School Wynyard, you'll enjoy working in a calm and quiet learning environment that supports student wellbeing and allows for focused, individualised teaching.
At Indie School Wynyard, you'll be supported by a collaborative and experienced on-site team—including a Head of School, Assistant Head of School, Welfare Officers, and an Administration Officer. You’ll also be part of a broader group of Indie Schools that work closely together, sharing expertise and supporting one another to enhance student learning and outcomes.
Our school provides students with a supportive and personalised learning environment. Each student has an individual plan (IP), tailored to their educational goals and personal circumstances. Smaller class sizes allow for more targeted support, helping students build confidence and identify their strengths.
What truly sets Indie School apart from other alternative education settings is our foundation in adult education philosophies. We value student choice, student voice, independence, mutual respect, and accountability. In return for taking greater responsibility for their own learning, students enjoy increased freedoms and a more flexible educational experience.
